| this solution will work with IPhone 3G if baseband is not upgraded to version 2.30, usualy the base band will be upgraded to 2.30 after upgrading the firmware to 2.2.1.
For all, you should be carefull when upgrading to firmware 2.2.1, because untill now there is no software solution to unlock Iphone 3G with base band version 2.30.
But if you need to upgrade your phone to version 2.2.1 without upgrading the baseband then you have to use a customised 2.2.1 version . Best Wishes.
